Abandoned Piano in a Forgotten Wood

Alone, in a small house outside of town, lived a woman whose few possessions included an old upright piano. 06:06

Its keys were worn, and its wooden frame bore the markings of a lifetime’s worth of being played, being moved, and being played some more. 02:08

On it, the woman composed beautiful, haunting pieces and played them everyday. 02:37

But it was music that only she heard as her children were all grown and her husband had passed on long ago. 02:08

Each melody told a story of love but also of loneliness, and of the unspoken language that only music can convey. 04:17

Years went by and the women slowly grew older. 04:14

One evening as she played, she felt a stirring deep inside her. 02:01

Slowly she laid her head down on the piano’s dark wooden surface, took a slow breath, and breathed no more. 02:04

She was discovered the next day, and arrangements were made to remove her from the house to be buried. 02:39

The old house was torn down, and the piano was moved out into the garden exposing it to the elements. 02:18

It sat on the land its keys silent, its strings untouched, there on the outside of town. 04:52

And as the seasons came and went, the once well-tended garden transformed into a wild, swampy wood. 03:54

One night, in the silence of the overgrown swamp, when an unusually blue moon cast its gentle glow on the forgotten instrument, something happened. 03:16

The piano, devoid of human touch, began to play itself, its keys moving gracefully, perfectly producing the hauntingly beautiful music that had been played on it so many times before. 05:35

But there was no audience to hear the melancholia that echoed through the night, so the piano played for the trees, the frogs, and the fireflies that danced in the darkness. 04:32
